Episode 5 Write-Up!

Seasons Greetings, FireGold fanatics!  It's been quite a while since the last episode.  I thank you all for your patience.  With that, let's begin with Episode 5.

Some of you may have noticed that the title of this episode is a reference to The Misfits' song "American Psycho."  Since we used that psycho theme quite a bit in this episode, we thought that would be the best title since you heard us having trouble coming up with one in the bloopers.  We begin the episode with Fat Guy once again intruding in the introduction.  Since DM warned him to stop last episode, this was the last straw.  AC came back to his rightful place as Narrator and read the intro while DM seemingly beat the snot out of Fat Guy.  Gold hopes that he will not see the Tipster Nerd again.  Wishful thinking on his part.  After Gold ignores his phone and receives the voicemail from Elm, he is informed that his Assistant is at the Purple- I mean, Violet City Poke Center with the egg.  For those who couldn't clearly hear what Elm said, he said the following in this order:  "How do I work this thing?  Oh, Professor Elm."  "Hello, Gold?  I really need to talk to you about an urgent favor.  I will not stop calling until you answer your dang phone!"  "Ah, Gold, finally!  We've discovered something about the egg.  Visit my assistant at Violet City's Poke Center for further information."  Elm's Assistant really has a knack for holding grudges for the simplest things.  From there, we present the debut of BUM DH as someone you probably didn't expect him to play, Nurse Joy.  We had Gold go up that path up North only to find the Sudowoodo blocking his way to both Goldenrod City and Ecruteak City.  Even poking it Symphony of Destruction style didn't phase it so he's advised to go down Route 32 so he could get past it later on.  After mistakenly assuming a PRZCUREBERRY is for curing poison, Gold comes across the Miracle Seed Guy next to the grass on Route 32.  For some reason, DM had him sound like that girl who always corrected him whenever he mispronounced a city name, which prompted BUM DH to come up with that line leading to psycho.  BUM DH came up with the idea for using psycho in all the instances you hear it on the same day we recorded the episode.  Some funny shtuff on his part.  Since Gold hated the idea of going through more grass, he decides to simply sprint his way through it.  He suddenly stopped to find that Picnicker Liz was having relationship issues.  She gives him her number but when she says that she wants Gold to buy her stuff for them to be in a relationship, he quickly changes his mind and keeps sprinting.  He trips on a wild Mareep's tail and pays the price.  It was pretty funny that it sounded like DM said "RAPE" listening back on it.  When Gold hits the ground after he passes out, Quilava and Hoothoot drag him to the nearest Poke Center.  Gold encounters the Slowpoketail Salesman before he finally makes his way into the Union Cave.  He begins the battle with the first Hiker in the cave to find that he has nothing to easily beat a rock-type.  He calls Elm again and Elm somehow knows that Faulkner gives TM31 as a bonus for defeating him.  Here's what Elm says if you had trouble hearing it:  "Gold, did the egg hatch already?"  "Well, have you beaten Faulkner yet?"  "Use TM31 that teaches Mud-Slap.  Teach it to your Hoothoot and that'll be super-effective against rock-types."  "Now Gold, only call me if the egg hatches.  All right?"  He gets past the first Hiker and does well against the second until he hits a wall when his Hoothoot is owned by the remaining Geodude.  After one flame attack isn't very effective against said Geodude, Gold screws the rules again and has Quilava use both its flames to take down Geodude.  He then comes up to the first Firebreather spinning around and Gold successfully avoids him.  Then, the creepy Pokemaniac goes off on an OCD Pokemon craze fest and creeps us all out.  Gold then battles the second Firebreather and oh, what a surprise.  Gold screws the rules AGAIN by having Quilava use both his flames and Ember all in the same turn.  Good thing he was in a cave or otherwise that would've had him disquali-  oh, who am I kidding?  Gold gets away with anything he wants because he's that awesome!  In fact, he's so awesome, he avoids another spinning person at the end of the episode.  Poor Fat Guy.  I guess he had to learn to not intervene in the introduction the hard way.

That about does it for this write-up!  Hope you all have a great whatever day you're celebrating this season and I'll blog to you all again very soon!

Episode 4 Write-Up!

Hey, FireGold fanatics!  Bet you thought you wouldn't get Episode 4 this quickly, didn't you?  I'm afraid you're not so lucky...wait, maybe you are.  Hmm....well, here's Episode 4!

It seems that there is still a lot of tension between Draftmaster and Fat Guy.  This was one instance where maybe DM should've let him read the intro.  After all, it was short as heck.  We pick up right where we left off and find that Gold's trick did work.  SURPRISED?  He couldn't avoid Sage Chow, though.  In this battle we hear that Hoothoot learns Peck out of nowhere.  If Pokemon in the anime can get away with evolving at any time they want, why can't Hoothoot get away with this?  The bird pwns both Bellsprouts and Gold manages to avoid the Sage in the next floor.  He gets to the top to find out that he is in a battle against 3 different Sages.  The music used here was Dream Theater's "A Rite of Passage" in 8-bit, so it's not entirely copyrighted, right?  Hoothoot quickly pwns one but is pwned by the 2 remaining Sprouts.  Cyndaquil pwns both at once courtesy of his back flame.  We then find Silver harshly defeating Sage Li, just like in the games.  I wanted Li to sound like Bruce Lee here because when I recalled the "Pokemon are not instruments of war..." line, I figured we could use the Emotional Content reference from Enter the Dragon because Silver trains his Pokemon with rage and harshness.  After Silver has his 15 seconds of fame in this episode, Gold battles Li.  We find out here that Cyndaquil learned Ember after he pwned those 2 Sprouts at once.  I felt this was a great way to make up for his back flame running out of PP.  2 pwnages later and Gold gets HM05 and learns an important lesson about Emotional Content and anger.  My imitation of Bruce might not have been the best but hey, none of us really can imitate him.  After puking because of the Escape Rope, Gold finally enters the Violet City Gym!  By the way, is it just me or is Disapparating from Harry Potter similar to using an Escape Rope?  Eh, tell me what you think below.  Why couldn't we use a sob story to get directly to Falkner without battling those two bird bastards?  Eh, I digress.  Falkner is voiced by Arch Canine, making Falkner the first real character he has voiced for us.  Man, it sure was a pain to edit his lines with mine.  So, who would prevail in a Kanto Birds vs. Johto Birds face off?  The Johto Birds, of course!  After Pidgeotto faints due to burn, the moment we all waited for occurs.  Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava!  Things are sure looking great for Gold now, but will he soon hit a wall?  Hmm...we'll see!

That blooper at the end was DM and I messing around before we started recording the episode, I guess it was to warm up or something.  But I felt it was one of the most spontanious and hilarious things we've done yet.  If you all want to hear DM do the AHHNOLD impersonation more often, be sure to let us know!

And that's pretty much it!  As always, enjoy the episode, stay tuned for the next one, and thank you all for the support!  I'll see you all for the next write-up!

Episode 3 Write-Up!

Hey there, FireGold fanatics!  FINALLY...the write-up for Episode 3 is here!  Sorry it took longer than it should have, but here it is and let's not waste any more time!

Since Arch Canine was out this episode due to some evil food, Draftmaster decided to take the role as substitute narrator.  The reason he read the introduction so fast was because he only had 10 seconds to read it all before it officially began with Gold's opening line.  I was a little lazy and didn't want to rearrange everything just for the intro, so DM read it as fast as he could and I thought it was awesome once he finally read it through without messing up too much.  And because some of the voices sounded a little too much like DM's narration voice, I decided to raise the pitch a bit to make it stand out and to provide an extra joke.  Since it was nighttime out in this episode, there was a lot of Hoothoot in the grass so we made a little joke with different Hoothoots chanting and one even talking.  Just like in the game, Gold battles youngsters Joey and Mikey.  How did Joey's Rattata heal up fast, exactly...?  Come on, Joey, you got some 'splaining to do!  Well, being the immature little brat that he is, he refuses and his Rattata gets pwned by Cyndaquil's back flame.  Gold then fights Mikey and Cyndaquil learns Smokescreen after pwning Mikey's Pidgey.  The smoke makes his Rattata easy picking for Cyndaquil's back flame, giving Gold the victory and giving Rattata potentially fatal third degree burns.  Gold then went to the Dark Cave and used Cyndaquil's flame as a flashlight to easily navigate inside it.   I came up with this because in the Pokemon cartoon, Ash used Charmander's tail flame to navigate through a cave in the Squirtle Squad episode so I thought it'd make sense.  After finding out Geodude's are hardly affected by fire attacks, Gold flees and finally reaches Purple City!  Had Gold call Violet City "Purple City" because it's his trademark to misinterpret city names whenever he reaches a new one.  Since Elm told Gold not to heal Pokemon anywhere but in his lab, Gold had to go back to New Bark AGAIN.  We felt this was the perfect opportunity to bring up the gag that Red Squirtle did where the vikings stole all of Elm's root beer so we did it.  Before their fans get mad at us for using that idea from them, the Red Squirtle Squad was fine with us doing it.  The running without running shoes thing was influenced by Red Squirtle's funny cave music sequence.  The music we used in that sequence is the music you hear in the boss battle of Killer Instinct 2, Gargos's theme.  We came up with this because we felt there should be a way Gold could go back to Violet without interacting with everyone and everything for too long.  SCREW THE RUNNING SHOES, GOLD HAS- uh... well, you can finish that sentence in the comments.  Once Gold got back to Violet, I had him go into the Academy because there was a lot of things going on in there that we could make fun of.  After Fat Guy made the obligatory but somewhat logical advertisement for Pokemon Black and White, Gold enters the Sprout Tower and tries that trick where he tries to avoid the first battle with the circle-spinning Sage that I know we ALL did playing this game back in the day.  That's where we set the obligatory cliffhanger and show you some more bloopers.  DM doing the AHHNOLD impersonation never gets old for me, it cracks me up every time.

And, yeah!  That's pretty much the write-up!  Sorry it wasn't the best summary of it or our thought process making it, I'll try to do better on the Episode 4 write-up.  Until then, enjoy Episode 3 and expect it to be up on YouTube within the next few days and expect Episode 4 very soon!  See you all again for the next write-up!

Silver & Episode 3 Update

Hello, peeps!  PAPAYA here again, and here's a quick update on things and Episode 3 requested by Draftmaster.

So that Monologue idea was DM's improvising, all of a sudden he thought we should give you all an idea of what Silver is up to during Gold's adventure.  Listening it again made me realize that it wan't the best voice-over work, and the ending probably left something to be desired.  But, it was still cool.  Part 2 will be better, though, believe us.

Now, onto Episode 3.  Well, unfortunately, we're all going to have to wait another week.  One of the teamsters is out on vacation and he won't be back till next week.  Most of Episode 3 IS done, we just need his lines and it'll be completed.  Until then, may he enjoy his vacation!

See you all for the official write-up!

Carl's advertisement and Bookface

Hey peoples, PAPAYA here again to give you some news.  Draftmaster has now made a Bookface account for FireGold and so go check it out and like us if you haven't already.  Type in Pokemon Fire Gold (yes, seperated) to find us.

As for the advertisement, it pretty much was spontanious.  I just pitched the idea DM and he said go for it.  It wasn't scripted at all, was the first take (except for the kids of course) and I just went ahead pointing out some of the features.  Just something I decided to do simply because I was bored.

Now, onto episode 3.  It's now written and I'm simply waiting for the other two guys to meet up with me so we can start recording it.  Once it's recorded in full, I can pretty much guarantee it'll be up quickly.  So hang tight, and it'll be here sooner than you think!

Finally, I want to thank the Red Squirtle Squad for mentioning us on their blog.  I simply can't thank you guys enough for all you've done for us, including the Anniversary episode, the shirts, and giving us your blessing to do something you inspired us to do.  You guys rule!

Yup, that's pretty much it!  Talk to you all later!

Episodes 1 and 2 Write-Ups

Hello, peoples!  PAPAYA here, and welcome to the write-ups of the first two episodes of Pokemon FireGold!  So let's start with the first one.  Yeah, about that surprise in episode 1...uh, well I might as well tell you what happened.  You see, originally Alex from the great Red Squirtle was going to provide the voice of Oak for us.  Unfortunately, he and the rest of the guys have been really busy as of late and I had to do the voice of Oak after all.  I feel I didn't do the character justice but it is what it is.  Now, to the plot.

Had to start accordingly to the game with the introduction featuring Oak and Gold.  I remember that in this game, you didn't have a potion in your PC waiting for you like in Red, Blue and Yellow.  As you'll find out later, there was a reason why.  I decided to include that Fat Guy in New Bark because I remember those times when you went up to him and all he ever said was "YO, Gold!" As you can probably tell, all the voices up to this point have been me except the Narrator, voiced by Arch Canine.  I'm Gold, Mom, Oak and Fat Guy.  Then we get in to Elm's lab and introduce to you Draftmaster's voice!  Self-explanitory shtuff in the lab, DM also voiced Elm's assistant.  Then we get to ???, also voiced by DM.  At first, we were gonna have him sound like a normal dark person but when DM started talking like Steve-O, I thought that would be better, as it would be serious and funny at the same time and DM agreed.  When ??? kicks Gold, that sound effect was of the fighter Jago from Killer Instinct, one of my favorite fighting games of all time.  In an unrelated note, PAPAYA wants Killer Instinct 3, Rare!  Anyways, we get through a battle where we show your newly acquired Pokemon always had a berry with him and have the tour with the Old Guy, voiced by DM.  After meeting that berry guy who always gave you a berry even after you got one from his tree and youngster Joey (who sounded a little too old for a youngster, whoops), Gold meets Oak and gets the egg from Mr. Pokemon.  Again, I felt Alex could've done much better shtuff but life tends to catch up with everyone when you don't want it to.  Anyway, I did what I did and didn't think it was too bad.  Then Gold's PokePhone rings with a funny ringtone provided from DM's cell phone, he had a bunch of sample tones in his phone and we decided to use that one.  Elm calls Gold like in the game, setting up the cliffhanger for Episode 2!  Yeah, editing wasn't the best in this episode but it would improve in the next one.

We find that Gold is in no hurry to help Elm and can we blame him?  No, because we have to know who wins the battle between youngsters Joey and Mikey.  Mikey wins and off Gold goes to find ??? coming up to him.  So, then ??? sends out his Totodile...wait, WHAT?  Did he actually...NO, he didn't.  YES HE DID!  Something we always wished happened did!  ??? stole the Pokemon Gold can easily kill, Chikorita!  It was AC's idea to have Silver do that, killer idea.  After Cyndaquil gets angry having being tackled, he used his back flame to kill Chikolita!  He doesn't need Ember!   Hahaha...yeah, anyway, back at Elm's, Gold finds some red stuff on the floor.  It turned out to be the Assistant's fruit punch spilled on the floor and all over him thanks to Silver.  All this was DM's improvising and I felt it was great.  All the shtuff from the game occurs, including the officer letting you name your rival what you wanted.  The plan always was to name him Silver so no, we didn't consider any other possible funny names.  Hmm...how did we send Mom money from far away, exactly?  Well, she'll never tell us.  Gold then meets the lispy-voiced Dude and catches a Hoothoot!  Lucky for him it was nighttime, otherwise it would've probably been another Pidgey...maybe.  And so, Gold sets off on his loooooong adventure on the road to Johto.

So yeah, that's pretty much it!  As far as Episode 3 goes, I admit that I haven't written it yet!  I should get started soon.  Until then, enjoy the first two episodes and I'll talk to you all again later!

Anniversary Write-Up and A New Prototype (unofficial)

Welcome to the Pokemon FireGold blog.  If you're here, then you must be a fan of the classic Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal games.  Where do I begin?  The fact that my partner in crime Draftmaster and I won the Anniversary contest back in September 2010 and were inspired by the great Red Squirtle to begin a sound abridging series ourselves?  Uh, wait.  That's the only thing that happened.  Since the Red Squirtle guys didn't know what we were thinking writing that script, I figure I might as well give you an idea of what it was like coming up with it.  First off, we thought of bringing up classic material from that series as much as we can.  That being said, we made sure we had that funny cave music they used in it when Red entered the Diglett Cave.  Figured Oak could be there in the cave since Pallet isn't too far from the Diglett Cave.  From there, we paid homage to Oak's character in the series and had Lt. Surge appear since he isn't that far from the cave, either.  We thought Surge would be pretty upset he never faced Red in an actual battle and lost two game shows that cost his team the Thunder and Rainbow Badges.  Paid homage to the series in the battle and had many Dugtrio appear since it was rare for Dugtrio to appear in the cave.  Then Brock ended up in the Viridian Forest after his Onix dug to the wrong location.  Since Red met the three awesome guys in Celedon and Brock just happened to be delivering pizza in the same city an episode later, I figured it'd make sense having him deliver a pizza to the guys and then they would've told him to deliver a pizza to Red for the anniversary party.  From there, we brought back some other great characters to celebrate, including Annoy, Misty, Blue, Oak, Erika, and her posse of grass girls.  From there, Red gets irritated with everyone saying he's a year old when he thinks he should be 11.  Only thing we regret not including in the script is Erika singing.  Then Red would've had a legit reason to have Dead Pidgey use Fly.  So yeah, that was pretty much the thought process.

Now onto our own material.  The official first episode is coming real soon.  Believe you me, we have a nice surprise for you guys in it that should get Pokemon FireGold kicked off in a big way.  Until then, enjoy the prototype episode showing you where we're headed.  Yes, Red Squirtle is gonna be a heavy influence in our series so you'll hear many similarities.  But in no way will we be trying to just copy them.  We'll try to be as original as we possibly can.  So yeah, until next time, Episode 1 is coming soon.  Talk to you all later!
